International Studio for Plastics in Wood (1971)
Sculpting stories from living matter.
Since 1971, this studio explores the soul of wood through form, fire, and imagination.
Established in 1971, the International Studio for Plastics in Wood continues CSLU – Prilep’s vision of expanding the language of sculpture through new materials and traditional craft. Born from the rich natural and cultural environment of Prilep, this studio invites artists to explore wood as a living material — organic, expressive, and endlessly versatile.
Artists from around the world converge in this space to carve, burn, layer, and shape wood into contemporary artworks that honor its heritage while embracing innovation. The studio functions as both a sanctuary for creation and a forum for experimentation, where natural grain meets global technique.
This program has produced an exceptional collection of sculptures that speak to nature, mythology, movement, and modernity, and continues to inspire generations of creators. It is not just about form, but about feeling — where tradition is remembered through every line, and the scent of cedar and oak carries the memory of art in progress.
