International Sculpture Symposium – “MARBLE” (1963).
Where stone becomes story.
Since 1963, MARBLE carves the legacy of Prilep into timeless form.
Founded in 1963, the International Sculpture Symposium—MARBLE is one of the earliest events of its kind in the world, placing Prilep among the global capitals of monumental sculpture. Initiated by Prof. Dr. Bosko Babic, this symposium was born from the region's natural riches, particularly the world-renowned white marble Sivec, used in the White House, the Acropolis, and beyond.
For decades, sculptors from across the globe have come to Prilep to shape this unique stone into bold public artworks. The symposium has generated an open-air museum of marble creations that now populate streets, parks, and institutions across North Macedonia — a visible testimony to CSLU’s mission to bring art into public space.
More than technical mastery, MARBLE is a symbol of unity: artists of different nations, ideologies, and generations sculpt together, sharing process and perspective. In a world that changes rapidly, this symposium endures — with every chisel strike echoing across time, culture, and stone.
