Dime Janeski
(1952–2016)
President and Secretary of CSLU – Prilep
(1980–2015)
Art Historian, builder of continuity and resilience
Born on October 15, 1952, Dime Janeski completed his entire education in Macedonia, graduating with a degree in Art History. From the earliest days of his career, he was actively involved in the work of the Center for Contemporary Art – Prilep, becoming General Secretary in 1980 — a role he held with dedication for over two decades. In 2001, he officially took on the leadership of the Center as its President, serving until 2015.
Leadership Through Transition
Janeski’s presidency came during some of the most socially and institutionally challenging years for the cultural sector in the region. Yet, through his persistence, courage, deep sense of justice, and unwavering love for art, he ensured the unbroken continuity of CSLU’s work and legacy, allowing the institution to proudly carry its 64+ years of history into the present day.
A Legacy of Expansion and Innovation
Beyond preserving the foundations laid by founder Dr. Boško Babić — such as the International Painting Colony, Marble Sculpture Symposium, Studio for Sculpture in Wood, and other specialized visual workshops — Dime Janeski spearheaded the development of new initiatives that expanded CSLU’s international artistic profile. Among his most significant contributions are:
• The International Atelier for Printmaking
• The International Atelier for Mosaic
• The International Studio for Metal Sculpture
• The unique and rare International Studio for Sculpture in Plastic, a distinctive program not only in Macedonia but also in the wider region
Despite limited resources and turbulent times, Janeski’s visionary thinking, leadership, and tireless engagement ensured that CSLU remained not only alive but creatively active, respected, and artistically relevant.
